How do landlords become accredited?

Firstly, have a look at the website and read the aims and objectives so that you understand the schemes requirements

  • Register and complete the online application form
  • Complete the fit and proper persons declaration
  • Provide details of your rental properties
  • You will be asked to provide copies of your current gas safety and electrical safety (EICR) certificates(s), EPC's (if applicable).

If you have any questions email: [email protected] or call:023 9284 1727

Accreditation will be given where a landlord fulfils the criteria of the Scheme. This will involve ensuring, as far as reasonably possible, that the landlord is responsible, competent and suitable to be a member of the Scheme.

  • No conviction for illegal eviction or harassment of tenants.
  • No conviction for violence towards any persons.
  • No conviction for mortgage, Housing Benefit or Council Tax fraud or breach of grant conditions.
  • No failings to comply with any statutory notice or House in Multiple Occupation requirements resulting in prosecution or works being carried out by Portsmouth City Council
  • No conviction for non-compliance of a Planning Enforcement Notice relating to a residential property
  • No other convictions, which would indicate, to the Rent it Right Operators unsuitability of the applicant under this Scheme.

There will be a small cost of £10 per property to renew membership from August 2018

If you are a letting agent who wishes to join the scheme, please contact the scheme support team to discuss cost.
